An elderly relative of mine ran a group of 30 people who split a shared daily reading cycle — one part each. Every finished round meant redistributing all 30 parts by hand in a WhatsApp thread: messages got buried, two people would take the same part, others got skipped, and no one could see what was still open. I built the app that replaced that thread, gave it away, and have kept it running ever since.
Highlights
- The whole point is the assignment: create a group, invite members from contacts, hand out the parts, track who's done live, and roll the next round over automatically instead of retyping 30 names into a chat.
- Built for its actual users — people aged ~45–70. Arabic RTL-first, large type, high contrast, one clear purpose per screen, plain-language errors, and no ads or growth mechanics.
- Group chat, daily reminders that respect each member's timezone, phone/OTP login, public groups you can browse and request to join, plus a quiz feature with ranking.
- React Native/Expo over Firebase (auth, realtime database, notifications), with business logic isolated in an SDK module layer; shipped to the App Store and Google Play via EAS with over-the-air updates.
